At the 2022 Orlando Fringe Festival, a strange box appeared under an enormous tree near the festival lawn. A carnival barker assured us that the being within had magical powers and was, in fact, a Dream Dealer.
Over the course of 45 minutes, attendees shared in a common dream, making choices that shaped the story and helped ZouBou drive the action of the dream. By the end of the run, they even decided the fates of the barker and ZouBou himself.
The show was half-scripted and half-improvised, providing audiences with stories and dreams unique to each night of the show. Each audience member received a dreamer’s identity card that they could keep as a souvenir.
We built a custom set complete with smoke and light effects, designed and printed custom decks of cards with unique artwork, and wrote an original, interactive story with complex characters in search of redemption and power.
The show ran for both weeks of the Fringe Festival, earning positive reviews and selling out at the end of its run.
